More than 100 House lawmakers signed a letter to the FDA requesting an update on the timeline for authorization of a COVID-19 vaccine for children younger than 12, while Lee Savio Beers, president of the American Academy of Pediatrics, urged the agency to act “as soon as possible” earlier this month. In a letter to President Joe Biden, Children’s Hospital Association CEO Mark Wietecha also warned that more resources to care for children with COVID-19 could be needed as case loads continue to rise.
