NEW DELHI: BJP MLA Biswajit Das and BJP councillor Manotosh Nath on Tuesday joined Trinamool Congress in Kolkata.
Biswajit is MLA of Bagda of North 24 Parganas.
Biswajit who had quit TMC to join BJP in 2019, said, “due to some misunderstandings, some changes were made that shouldn’t have been made. I’ve returned to my home now and I will continue to work for people of my state and constituency.”
“I never felt very comfortable in the BJP. I wanted to return to the TMC long ago. The BJP has done nothing for Bengal,” he added.
Biswajit is the third MLA from BJP to return to TMC after elections.
On Monday, Bishnupur MLA Tanmoy Ghosh joined the Trinamool Congress, alleging that his BJP was indulging in vindictive politics.
Ghosh claimed that the BJP was also attempting to trigger chaos among the people of West Bengal, because of which he joined the TMC.
“I urge all to join the TMC for the welfare of West Bengal. There is a need to strengthen the hands of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee,” he said.
Earlier, in June, BJP MLA and party’s national vice-president Mukul Roy rejoined the TMC, four years after he left the Mamata Banerjee-led party to join BJP.
Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress won 213 seats in the recent West Bengal Assembly elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party garnered 77 seats in the 294-seat state assembly.
